“Lal Carbon and Soil Health Center”
Opening at the National University of Uzbekistan
On April 24, 2025, the Department of Soil Science at the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) inaugurated the “Lal Carbon and Soil Health Center”, established in collaboration with The Ohio State University, USA.
The center, named after Professor Rattan Lal, a world-renowned soil scientist and laureate of the World Food Prize, represents a significant step forward in the scientific cooperation between American and Uzbek researchers. Its primary goal is to jointly address soil-related challenges, promote sustainable land management, and enhance soil health research in Uzbekistan and beyond.
During the opening ceremony, Professor Rattan Lal was awarded the title of “Honorary Professor of the National University of Uzbekistan” in recognition of his outstanding contributions to global soil science and his efforts to strengthen international academic collaboration.
This new center will serve as a platform for education, research, and innovation in the field of soil science, supporting the country’s efforts toward sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.
