International Day of French Language Teachers: Advancing Language, Culture, and Sustainable Development at the National University of Uzbekistan
On 20 November 2025, the Department of French Philology at the Faculty of Foreign Philology of the National University of Uzbekistan hosted a major cultural and educational event dedicated to the International Day of French Language Teachers. Celebrated since 2019 on the initiative of the International Organisation of La Francophonie, this day once again highlights the essential role of the French language in global science, culture, and international dialogue.
The event reflected NUU’s commitment to international openness, enhancing student competencies, and fostering an educational environment that contributes to sustainable development.
The celebration brought together teachers from the French Alliance of Tashkent, representatives of the Embassy of France in Uzbekistan, a specialist from Campus France, as well as the former Consul of Belgium in Uzbekistan.
Opening the event, Professor Dildora Djafarova, Head of the Department of French Philology, emphasized that the French language in Uzbekistan serves not only as a linguistic tool but also as a cultural bridge, playing a key role in the university’s annual cooperation strategy with the Francophone world.
The program continued in a creative and dynamic atmosphere. Students of French studies participated in a French song contest, an art and illustration exhibition, as well as performances showcasing French music and dance traditions.
This platform offered students not only practical language experience but also the opportunity to demonstrate cultural identity, creative thinking, and teamwork skills — while directly contributing to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 11.
