Creative Learning through Literature: Exploring Eugene O’Neill’s Legacy

On October 31, the Faculty of Foreign Philology The department of Foreign language and literature  of NUU held a demo lesson with groups XR-5 and XR-6-22 on the subject History of English and American Literature. The session was devoted to the life and works of the great American playwright Eugene O’Neill, with a special focus on his famous play Desire Under the Elms, which was staged by the students themselves.

The event was organized in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 4 – Quality Education. The students demonstrated creativity and teamwork by preparing the script, designing the stage decor, and performing the roles with enthusiasm and understanding. The play explored timeless themes such as greed, excessive love for wealth, and the loss of human emotions under material desires.

The lesson was conducted under the guidance of PhD Fayziyeva M.S., who provided close support to the students throughout the preparation process, motivating and inspiring them to express their artistic and intellectual potential.

Distinguished guests, the Head of the Department, Professor Hurshid Sarimsakov, professors Munira Nizamova, Nazirova Shakhnoza Alimjanovna, attended the event and highly appreciated the students’ initiative and creativity, wishing them further success. The open lesson not only deepened students’ understanding of world literary heritage but also inspired a love for reading, creativity, and cultural awareness — reflecting the spirit of SDG 11 – Sustainable Cities and Communities.
