Enhancing Collaboration with the Institute of Microbiology to Tackle Biodisasters and Infectious Threats

On March 19, a delegation from the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek, led by Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Dr. Shuhrat Toshmatov, visited the Institute of Microbiology under the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan to discuss new directions in scientific and academic collaboration.

The meeting, held in cooperation with the Faculty of Biology’s Department of Microbiology and Biotechnology, focused on strengthening the integration of theoretical training with practical experience for undergraduate and graduate students. In a dialogue with the Institute’s leadership, both parties exchanged views on expanding joint efforts to confront biological disasters (biodisasters) — including infectious disease outbreaks, antibiotic resistance, and climate-related microbial threats.

As part of Uzbekistan’s broader commitment to scientific preparedness for health emergencies, the partnership aims to support joint research, laboratory access, and the development of early warning systems against biological risks. The visit included a tour of the Institute’s laboratories, where students currently assigned to research teams are engaged in hands-on projects. These efforts are aligned with national strategies for pandemic preparedness, biosecurity, and climate-related health resilience.

Through such strategic alliances, the National University of Uzbekistan continues to foster inter-institutional cooperation that equips future scientists with the tools to face emerging global health and ecological challenges.
