NUU Strengthens Internationalization Efforts at the “URG International Relations Week 2025” in Spain

From May 27 to 29, 2025, the University of Granada (Spain) hosted the “URG International Relations Week 2025”, a large-scale international training program dedicated to advancing university internationalization and improving global ranking performance. The event brought together representatives and experts from leading universities around the world to exchange experience, explore challenges, and develop strategic solutions for building globally connected institutions.

Representing Uzbekistan, Raima Shirinova, Vice-Rector for International Relations of the National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz), participated in the training. The event served as a significant platform for discussing the modern tools of academic diplomacy, partnerships, and sustainable international engagement.

The opening session of the congress featured presentations from university experts who shared best practices and achievements in global cooperation, academic mobility, and ranking strategies. Participants emphasized the importance of enhancing universities’ visibility in global education systems through active international collaborations and participation in global projects.

On May 27, a focused workshop titled “Students Abroad: Problems and Solutions” was held, addressing one of the key indicators in international university rankings — the growth of student academic mobility. Experts discussed ways to attract more international grants, improve exchange opportunities, and increase both internal and external internationalization through innovative strategies.

Throughout the week, various training sessions and panel discussions were held on topics such as:

  • Expanding networks of international partners and building sustainable collaborations;

  • Enhancing participation in joint research and grant projects;

  • Increasing student and staff mobility through global programs;

  • Integrating internationalization strategies into institutional development plans.

Participants from different countries shared their experiences on overcoming existing challenges in university internationalization and strengthening their institutions’ positions in global rankings.

At the closing session on May 29, delegates highlighted that strengthening international partnerships and expanding joint research initiatives are essential components of a university’s long-term growth and reputation. The discussions concluded that active engagement in global projects and mobility programs not only contributes to improving institutional performance but also accelerates integration into the international higher education community.

Vice-Rector Raima Shirinova expressed her appreciation to the University of Granada for organizing a platform that unites professionals dedicated to developing globally competitive universities. She also emphasized that the experience gained from this training will support NUUz’s ongoing efforts to expand international collaboration, enhance its academic mobility programs, and elevate its position in global university rankings.
