Supporting the disabled in the policy of the National University of Uzbekistan

Currently, about 400 students with various disabilities are studying at the National University of Uzbekistan. Creating equal opportunities for their education is one of the strategic tasks of the university. It aims to create a barrier-free area for students with disabilities studying at the National University of Uzbekistan, to develop educational materials related to the methodology of inclusive education in all directions, and to fully implement the principles of inclusive education accepted by the world community in the educational process.

United Nations Convention “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities“, “Sustainable Development Goals“, “On the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the Republic of Uzbekistan“, “On Education“, Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PF-60 “On the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026“, Decision No. PQ-4860 “On measures to further improve the system of education for children with special educational needs” developed its concept and work plan in order to ensure the execution of the tasks defined in this decision. This work focuses on the implementation of the plan:

  1. a) establishment of an inclusive education center under the National University of Uzbekistan;
  2. b) creation of a barrier-free zone at the National University of Uzbekistan;
  3. c) development of educational materials related to the methodology of inclusive education in all directions;
  4. d) mastering modern theories of inclusive education, introducing approaches to the principles of inclusive education into educational modules in training centers;
  5. e) development of teaching-methodical sets and popular publications on inclusive education;
  6. f) development and implementation of methodological recommendations for professors and teachers regarding the use of innovative technologies in providing inclusive education to students with disabilities;
  7. g) providing computers in the university information resource center with special programs (audio synthesizers in Uzbek) that allow students with disabilities to use them and enrich books with braille and audiobooks;
  8. h) organization of sign language training courses at the National University of Uzbekistan.

By fulfilling these tasks, in 2022-2030, high-level indicators in the development of inclusive education at the National University of Uzbekistan, the creation of sufficient conditions, and the achievement of quality education are envisaged.

The administration is responsible for organizing scholarship for unrepresented groups and active students,  the credit-module system of education at the university, managing the educational process, providing services to students, effectively and systematically organizing academic activities, developing the curriculum and science programs, and automating the educational process through its openness and it is the structural structure of the university that performs activities such as ensuring transparency, preventing the occurrence of bureaucratic obstacles in the system, forming analytical data and optimizing the decision-making process. 

There is a special platform at National University of Uzbekistan every year the scholarship is distributed regarding social status and activness of a student.

FACILITIES

All the facilities in the university premises are accessible to students with disabilities, Wheelchair ramps are available to make the entrance and exit of the university grounds easier for students who use them, making it possible for students with disabilities to use all of the amenities that are located on university grounds.

Buttons with Braille letters installed in the elevator of the main building of the university, and the university’s restrooms are likewise designed to accommodate the requirements of these students.

A new dormitory is being built at the National University of Uzbekistan, and special toilets and bathrooms are being installed for students with disabilities:
