On November 16, the National University of Uzbekistan hosted a roundtable discussion titled “New Uzbekistan is the Land of International Harmony and Tolerance.” Organized by NUU’s Faculty of History, the event was held in collaboration with the “International Harmony and Tolerance” scientific center and the “Uzbekistan-France” Friendship Society.
The vice-rector for international relations, Raima Shirinova, opened the event by highlighting NUU’s recent achievements in improving its standings in the QS Asia 2024 and QS STAR rankings. The event featured speeches by prominent scholars, including associate professor Odilov Abror Anvarovich, who presented on “Interethnic Harmony and International Tolerance,” and South Kazakhstan University professor Torgautova Sholpon, who discussed integrating new research results into the course “Abaev Studies.” Ravshan Khamitov addressed “The Main Directions of Educating Young People in the Spirit of Tolerance.” Each speaker underscored the importance of nurturing tolerance and unity among different cultures and ethnicities, especially in educational settings.
A highlight of the event was a cultural performance by students from Turkmenistan who recently enrolled at NUU for the 2023-2024 academic year. Their songs and dances served as a vivid representation of the diversity and cultural richness present at NUU.
The event aligned closely with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
