105-Year Journey of NUU
The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek is one of the first universities established in Central Asia. NUU began its educational activities on May 12, 1918, as the Public University of Turkestan and has since operated under several names, including Turkestan State University, Central Asian State University, Tashkent State University, and Tashkent State University named after Mirzo Ulugbek.
On May 12, 2023, in celebration of its 105th anniversary, an international scientific and practical conference was held on the topic “The Role of the National University of Uzbekistan in the Development of Science and Society”. The event was attended by the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Ibrahim Abdurakhmanov, rectors of higher education institutions, professors, and foreign guests. A documentary film about the university was shown, and in his opening speech, Minister Abdurakhmanov acknowledged the institution’s significant contributions to the development of science in Uzbekistan and warmly congratulated the university community and guests.
The celebration was embraced warmly within the university, with the Department of Work with Youth, Spirituality, and Enlightenment of NUU, in collaboration with the primary organization of the University Youth Union, hosting several events. These included competitions for poetic creations and creative photography themed “My University is My Pride,” a mini-football tournament for professors, teachers, and staff, and an open judo championship for university students held in the NUU sports hall.
Additionally, the “Audiovisual and Internet Journalism” department launched the “Media Focus” project for students of the Faculty of Journalism and the amateur journalism school under the faculty. This project featured renowned journalists, bloggers, political scientists, legal experts, linguists, and experienced psychologists conducting roundtable discussions on various topics. The Faculty of Geology and Engineering Geology also organized a “Geologists’ Knowledge Contest” with participation from students of the National University of Uzbekistan, Tashkent State Technical University, and the University of Geological Sciences.
“Prospects for the Development of Physical Education and Sports: Problems and Solutions”
Notably, in conjunction with the 105th anniversary celebrations, university departments organized around ten scientific and practical conferences at both national and international levels. Among these, the Faculty of Taekwondo and Sports Activities held the III scientific and practical seminar titled “Prospects for the Development of Physical Education and Sports: Problems and Solutions”.
During the opening ceremony, Dean Rakhimov Vladimir highlighted that the 33rd Summer Olympic Games in Paris in 2024 were successful not only for Uzbekistan but also for the university. He noted that two students, Ulugbek Rashidov and Svetlana Osipova, were among the winners and prizewinners at the Olympics.
He emphasized the importance of physical education and sports in society, the need to analyze existing challenges, and the importance of developing concrete proposals for solutions. He also discussed the necessity of engaging youth in sports and strengthening collaboration among sports organizations, educational institutions, and government agencies.

The Faculty of Biology organized a scientific and practical conference on “Issues and Development Stages of Immunophysiology in New Uzbekistan and Integrated Management and Melioration of Degraded Soils for Ensuring Food Safety: New Approaches and Innovative Solutions”.
Dean of the faculty Abdraxmanov Toxtasin introduced the participants to the faculty’s scientific potential and resources during the opening ceremony. He stressed the global urgency of food safety issues, the need for scientific research and innovative approaches to address these challenges, and the importance of enhancing collaboration among specialists, students, and researchers, as well as applying the conference results in practice.
“Migration in Uzbekistan and Korea: Current Situation and Challenges”
The Faculty of Economics hosted a scientific and practical conference titled “Migration in Uzbekistan and Korea: Current Situation and Challenges” in collaboration with Konkuk University in Korea. This conference focused on the rights and protections of migrants, as well as developing methods to address the social issues related to migration.
During the opening ceremony, Dean Umarov Abduvaxob highlighted the growing relations between Uzbekistan and Korea and the relevance of migration issues. He emphasized the necessity of protecting migrant rights, identifying related social problems, and developing effective strategies to address these issues. He also underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration with Konkuk University and the value of knowledge exchange, encouraging participants to engage in open discussions and share experiences. He discussed the conference’s goals and significance, stressing the need to define directions for future research.
