Integrating Sustainable Development Goals into Vocabulary Teaching: An Interactive Lesson on Quality Education and Climate Action
A lesson on “Teaching Vocabulary” based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) was conducted at the Faculty of Foreign Philology of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. The session was led by Gulchaman Zayniyeva, lecturer at the Department of Foreign Language and Literature.
During the lesson, the instructor employed interactive teaching methods and a multimodal presentation to demonstrate effective strategies for vocabulary acquisition through the lens of SDG 4 – Quality Education and SDG 13 – Climate Action.
Students actively participated in game-based and collaborative activities centered around environmental topics such as global warming, air pollution, and human–nature relationships. These engaging activities not only enriched students’ vocabulary but also deepened their understanding of global sustainability challenges.
The open lesson was attended by senior lecturer Bahrom Ibratov and other faculty members of the department, who provided highly positive feedback on the innovative approach and student engagement observed throughout the session.
In conclusion, participants emphasized that integrating SDGs into language teaching effectively enhances linguistic competence while fostering students’ critical thinking, environmental awareness, and sense of global responsibility.
