Wastewater Management Policy
At NUUz
The National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) is pursuing two key approaches to wastewater management.
- 1
Applying modern technologies through the Bo‘zsuv local wastewater treatment facility.
- 2
Implementing environmentally safe and economically efficient solutions through biological treatment methods.
Together, these two directions not only meet the needs of the university but also serve as a model of best practice for sustainable water resource management.
Bozsuv local wastewater treatment
A large portion of the wastewater generated within the university territory is directed to the “Bozsuv” local treatment facility.
- Here, the water undergoes additional purification through advanced filtration and disinfection methods.
- Through specialized pipeline networks, wastewater is efficiently collected and directed to sedimentation and treatment ponds located outside the campus.
As a result, water quality safety is ensured, and opportunities for reuse are created without causing harm to the environment.
Biological Wastewater Treatment
In addition to traditional methods, the National University of Uzbekistan also applies biological treatment technologies. This process is carried out using higher aquatic plants such as Pistia, Eichhornia, Azolla, and Duckweed.
These plants have been successfully adapted to the climatic conditions of Uzbekistan and are increasingly spreading in open water bodies.

Biomass – Reuse and Application in Agriculture
The green biomass obtained as a result of biological treatment is widely used in various fields:
- Azolla, as a “green fertilizer,” enhances soil fertility and increases crop yield
- Pistia and other aquatic plants are used as protein- and mineral-rich feed for livestock, poultry, fish farming, and amphibians
- Biogas, bioethanol, and paper can be produced from Eichhornia biomass.
- Medicinal preparations are also being produced from certain plants.
