Preserving and Enhancing Biodiversity

NUUz Strengthens Academic Exchange Through Partnership with the University of Pisa

Protecting and Enriching Our Planet’s Biodiversity 🌿

The National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek (NUUz) continues to lead efforts in conserving nature’s richness — from safeguarding ecosystems to advancing genetic diversity in agriculture for a sustainable future.

Advancing Genetic Diversity in Agricultural Crops

Under the leadership of Professor Fakhriddin Kushanov, research on the genetic diversity of agricultural crops continues to deliver valuable results. His work enhances the resilience of key food plants against climate change, soil salinization, and other global challenges, using the genetic traits of their wild ancestors

Tree Planting for a Greener Future

As part of the national “Yashil Makon” (Green Space) initiative, NUUz staff, students, and international partners recently joined forces to plant over 600 local and exotic tree saplings at the foothills of the Chatkal Range near Amirsoy Resort — helping restore landscapes and strengthen ecosystem biodiversity.

Protecting Uzbekistan’s Biodiversity

A scientific-practical conference on the protection of Uzbekistan’s biodiversity brought together experts to discuss the ecological status of fauna and flora, and modern conservation techniques. Research presentations covered diverse species — from birds and reptiles to insects and mollusks — highlighting their role in ecosystem balance and their interactions with human activity.
