Tree Planting for a Greener Future:

Preserving Ecosystems and Promoting Biodiversity

In line with Uzbekistan’s national “Green Space” (Yashil Makon) initiative, the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek (NUUz) continues its active contribution to environmental protection and sustainable development through practical ecological actions.

Recently, a tree-planting event was held at the western foothills of the Chatkal Range near Amirsoy Resort, uniting the university team and participants of an international conference in a shared mission — to restore natural landscapes and promote biodiversity.

were planted during the event. Each sapling symbolizes a commitment to the preservation of ecosystems, mitigation of climate change, and the promotion of biodiversity in mountainous and foothill areas.

Tree planting plays a vital role in maintaining ecological balance by:

  • Preventing soil erosion and land degradation;

  • Supporting the regeneration of habitats for local wildlife;

  • Enhancing air quality and carbon absorption;

  • Strengthening the natural resilience of ecosystems to climate variability.

Through such activities, NUUz students and staff not only contribute to environmental restoration but also gain a deeper understanding of how sustainable practices can protect natural systems for generations to come.

This initiative aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13 – Climate Action) and SDG 15 – Life on Land, emphasizing the university’s dedication to combating climate change and safeguarding terrestrial ecosystems.
