International Scientific-Practical Conference on “Integrating Climate Change Issues into Education in Uzbekistan”

An International Scientific-Practical Conference on the theme “Integrating Climate Change Issues into Education in Uzbekistan” was held at the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek. The event was organized by the Faculty of Hydrometeorology, in cooperation with the Hydrometeorological Service Agency of Uzbekistan and the Geographical Society of Uzbekistan.

The conference was conducted on the basis of the Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan (No. 305-F, June 9, 2021) and brought together domestic and foreign scientists, professors, researchers, and young scholars to address one of the most pressing global challenges of our time.

In the framework of New Uzbekistan’s development strategy, significant efforts are being made to address climate change, adapt to its impacts, and integrate sustainable practices into various sectors of the economy. Given Uzbekistan’s vulnerability to climate extremes, hydrometeorological and climate data are increasingly vital for agriculture, water management, energy, urban planning, transport, tourism, industry, and defense.

The conference emphasized that climate change poses critical challenges for Uzbekistan, affecting food security, public health, agriculture, energy production, and industrial growth. Uzbek scientists, in cooperation with international organizations such as UNESCO, WMO, UNEP, and IOHEG, are conducting extensive research on climate change adaptation and resilience. Notably, Uzbekistan is also a member of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), alongside 189 other countries.
