Uzbekistan–China Youth Researchers Forum: Building Tourism Cooperation Across Regions
The International Forum of Uzbek–Chinese Young Researchers under the theme “Together We Create Tourism Cooperation: Qo‘qon–Xi’an–Zomin” has officially begun, marking a significant step in strengthening cultural and scientific dialogue between Uzbekistan and China. The event is scheduled for September 26–28 and is jointly organized by the National University of Uzbekistan, Shaanxi Normal University (Xi’an, PRC), and Kokand University.
The opening ceremony gathered prominent figures from academia and local governance, including Inom Majidov, Rector of NUU, G‘ofurjon Zahidov, Director of Qo‘qon University, Ma’ruf Usmonov, Mayor of Qo‘qon city, Xurshidjon Axmedov, Deputy Governor of Fergana region for tourism, sports, culture, heritage, and communications, and Li Xinwei, Deputy Director of the Afghanistan Research Center at Shaanxi Normal University.
Their speeches underscored the importance of people-to-people diplomacy, cultural exchange, and tourism-driven regional cooperation as powerful tools for fostering long-term partnership between Uzbekistan and China.
The primary aim of the forum is to promote the tourism potential of Qo‘qon city, Rishton and Zomin districts, as well as the broader Fergana and Jizzakh regions. By presenting the cultural richness and historical significance of these destinations, the organizers hope to spark greater interest among the youth and citizens of Xi’an in visiting Uzbekistan’s unique landmarks.
Beyond tourism promotion, the forum has a strong research component. Participants plan to collaborate on:
- Joint scientific studies exploring the history and ethnography of key tourism sites.
- Preparation of academic monographs and textbooks based on shared findings.
- Development of new tourism cooperation models between Uzbek and Chinese institutions.
The forum represents more than a single academic gathering, it is a strategic platform for shaping future cooperation in tourism, education, and research. By connecting young researchers from Uzbekistan and China, it encourages innovative ideas that can influence policy, enhance regional tourism infrastructure, and deepen mutual cultural understanding.
The discussions at the opening session highlighted practical recommendations for strengthening Uzbekistan–China tourism collaboration. Suggestions included joint academic projects, applied research on tourism development, and the creation of sustainable tourism routes linking Qo‘qon, Xi’an, and Zomin.
This initiative not only elevates the visibility of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage on the international stage but also positions the country as a key partner for China in Central Asian tourism and scientific cooperation.
