Representatives of the delegation of Nazarbayev University of Kazakhstan visited the NUU

Today, representatives from Nazarbayev University of Kazakhstan paid an official visit to the National University of Uzbekistan (NUU).

The purpose of the visit was to further strengthen and expand the scope of collaboration between the two universities.

The delegation was welcomed by Vice-Rector for International Relations Raima Shirinova, Dean of the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Intelligent Technologies Zafar Rakhmonov, Professor Mirsaid Aripov, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Economics, as well as faculty members from the Department of Social Sciences.

During the meeting, the guests were introduced to NUU’s educational structure, its achievements in national and international university rankings, and ongoing joint international academic programs. Both sides exchanged insights on the potential for enhanced cooperation in several specific areas.

Key points of collaboration discussed included:

  • Academic Mobility: Plans were outlined for launching student and faculty exchange programs, enabling short-term and semester-long academic experiences for students and visiting professorships.

  • Joint Research Publications: Both universities agreed to encourage faculty collaboration on interdisciplinary research projects, with the goal of co-authoring high-impact scientific articles in international peer-reviewed journals.

  • Summer Schools: The institutions proposed organizing joint summer schools in economics, applied mathematics, cybersecurity, and interdisciplinary studies. These programs will promote cross-cultural learning and research among students and young scholars.

  • Capacity Building and Knowledge Sharing: Delegates from Nazarbayev University visited the Faculty of Economics and the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Intelligent Technologies, where faculty members delivered several open lectures:

    • A session on “The Cybersecurity Landscape” and “A Tutorial on Short-Form Essay Writing” was delivered to students of applied mathematics and intelligent technologies.

    • Dr. Gonzalo Hap Hortelano gave a lecture in English to economics students on the topic “The Role of Research in a Knowledge-Based Economy,” focusing on the importance of academic research in national innovation strategies and sustainable development.

Both institutions expressed a shared commitment to advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)—especially:

  • SDG 4 – Quality Education

  • SDG 9 – Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure

  • SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals

By fostering academic collaboration, promoting innovation, and equipping students with 21st-century skills, both universities aim to contribute to the development of sustainable, knowledge-driven societies.

At the end of the meeting, both sides agreed to hold follow-up virtual meetings to implement the proposed initiatives step by step and to designate focal points for coordinating the activities discussed.
