The National University of Uzbekistan organizes annual competitions in football, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, and chess under the “Student League” to effectively utilize students’ free time. These events have steadily gained popularity among students and youth, becoming an integral and cherished part of university life.
This year’s competitions attracted nearly 15,000 students and young participants. The events were held in stages, starting at the faculty level and progressing to the university-wide finals. The top teams that advanced to the finals competed for the prestigious “Rector’s Cup.” Notably, the competitions saw enthusiastic participation from both male and female students.
Teams representing 16 university faculties and four neighborhoods from the Olmazor district affiliated with the university participated commendably in the competitions. On February 16, the “Student League” award ceremony took place, where the university administration ceremoniously presented the winning teams with valuable prizes and cash awards. The top three teams in the overall standings were:
1st Place – Faculty of History
2nd Place – Faculty of Biology
3rd Place – Faculty of Geology and Engineering Geology
These events not only serve to organize students’ free time effectively but also promote sports among girls, enabling them to showcase their potential and create opportunities to achieve significant success on the international stage.
As a result of these efforts, several talented athletes have emerged from the National University of Uzbekistan, including:
- Shahrizoda Amirqulova – World Champion in national wrestling
- Umida Omonova – World Champion in rapid and blitz chess for youth
- Shoxsanam Azamova, Mannapova Madina, Svetlana Osipova – Multiple medalists in international and Olympic Taekwondo competitions
These athletes, through their achievements, have not only brought honor to the university but also represented the country with distinction on the international stage. Their success serves as a powerful source of inspiration, encouraging the younger generation to engage in sports and strive for excellence.
