From June 16 to 19, 2025<\/strong>, representatives of the National University of Uzbekistan<\/strong>\u00a0participated in the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC)<\/strong> organized by Times Higher Education (THE)<\/em> in Istanbul, T\u00fcrkiye. The international forum brought together over 5,000 participants<\/strong> from more than 100 countries<\/strong>, including universities, research centers, industry leaders, and NGOs to discuss global strategies and innovative solutions for sustainable development.<\/p>

The Uzbek delegation, which included 82 representatives from 9 universities<\/strong>, featured Alijon Oripov<\/strong>, Head of the Department of Strategic Development and International Rankings of NUUz, alongside specialists Zarina Rakhmonova<\/strong> and Muhammadali Sayiddiy<\/strong>.<\/p>

The four-day event featured a wide range of sessions, such as:<\/p>

  • Embedding the SDGs in Teaching and Learning<\/em> \u2013 integrating sustainability principles into education.<\/p><\/li>

  • Partnerships for Sustainable Futures<\/em> \u2013 strengthening academic\u2013industry collaboration.<\/p><\/li>

  • Green Campuses and Sustainable Infrastructure<\/em> \u2013 implementing eco-friendly university practices.<\/p><\/li>

  • THE Impact Rankings: Insights and Trends<\/em> \u2013 reviewing global performance in sustainable development metrics.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

    NUU\u2019s Achievement in THE Impact Rankings 2025<\/strong><\/h3>

    During the congress, Times Higher Education<\/em> announced the Impact Rankings 2025<\/strong>, which assess universities\u2019 contributions to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)<\/strong>.<\/p>

    NUUz achieved top 201\u2013300 global ranking<\/strong> across six SDGs, demonstrating the university\u2019s growing global influence in sustainability research, education, and community impact.
    Notably:<\/p>

    • SDG 13 (Climate Action):<\/strong> 73rd place among 1,089 universities \u2014 rising 19 positions from last year.<\/p><\/li>

    • SDG 2 (Zero Hunger):<\/strong> 70th place among 955 universities.<\/p><\/li>

    • SDG 15 (Life on Land):<\/strong> 99th place among 854 universities.<\/p><\/li>

    • SDG 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation)<\/strong> and SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy):<\/strong> ranked in the 101\u2013200 range<\/strong>.<\/p><\/li>

    • SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals):<\/strong> ranked in the 301\u2013400 range<\/strong> out of 2,389 institutions.<\/p><\/li><\/ul>

      This marks a dramatic rise of nearly 500 positions<\/strong> compared to the previous year (601\u2013800 range), positioning NUUz among the leading universities in sustainability efforts.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

      In his interview at the congress, Alijon Oripov<\/strong> emphasized that these achievements reflect NUU\u2019s scientific capacity, social responsibility, and firm commitment to the principles of sustainable development<\/strong>.
      He highlighted that the university\u2019s progress stems from consistent integration of the SDGs into academic programs, research initiatives, and international collaborations.<\/p>

      As of 2025, 2,389 universities<\/strong> are represented in THE Impact Rankings \u2014 a sharp increase from 768 institutions in 2020 \u2014 illustrating the growing importance of sustainability in global higher education.<\/p>
