In Tashkent, a seminar was held on the topic «Fundamentals of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities» in cooperation with the Association of Disabled Persons of Uzbekistan, a partner organization of the National University of Uzbekistan, and UNICEF.

<\/p>

This seminar was the end of a series of training sessions held throughout Uzbekistan to increase the capacity of initiative groups of parents of disabled children, as well as local and national organizations of disabled people in Uzbekistan.

<\/p>

The seminar was moderated by Abdulla Abduhalilov, professor of the Department of Social Work of NUU, who expressed his conclusions about the work being carried out in Uzbekistan, especially in higher education institutions, in terms of inclusion.

<\/p>

In 2022-2023, representatives of about 200 organizations of persons with disabilities in the cities of Namangan, Kokand, Bukhara, Samarkand, Nukus and Tashkent participated in trainings. During the training sessions, the parent groups received legal and advisory support for the registration of disabled people’s organizations and the continuous development of the organizations.

<\/p>

In addition, representatives of more than 40 disabled people’s organizations have acquired skills to effectively protect the rights of disabled people at the local and national level.

<\/p>

Addressing the participants of the seminar, the deputy representative of UNICEF in Uzbekistan, Geoffrey Ijumba, emphasized the importance of the meaningful and sustainable participation of disabled people in ensuring the successful implementation of all programs not only related to disability.

<\/p>

This cooperation between UNICEF and the Association of Disabled People of Uzbekistan represents a step towards promoting the rights of disabled people and developing a more inclusive society.

<\/p>

This initiative is implemented within the framework of the joint program of the United Nations Partnership on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities «Transforming the System of Social Services: Implementing a Human Rights-Based Approach for Children, Youth and Women with Disabilities in Uzbekistan.»<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t
