Sustainable Development Goal 17<\/strong>\u00a0(SDG 17<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0Global Goal 17<\/strong>) is about «partnerships for the goals.» One of the 17\u00a0Sustainable Development Goals<\/a>\u00a0established by the\u00a0United Nations<\/a>\u00a0in 2015, the official wording is: «Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development».\u00a0The Goal has 17 targets to be achieved by 2030, broken down into five categories:\u00a0finance<\/a>,\u00a0technology<\/a>,\u00a0capacity building<\/a>,\u00a0trade<\/a>\u00a0and systemic issues. Progress towards targets will be measured by 25 indicators.<\/p>

SDG 17 refers to the need for the nonhegemonic and fair cross sector and cross country collaborations in pursuit of all the goals by the year 2030.\u00a0It is a call for countries to align policies. SDG 17 is a vision for improved and more equitable trade, as well as coordinated investment initiatives to promote\u00a0sustainable development<\/a>\u00a0across borders. It is about strengthening and streamlining cooperation between nation-states, both developed and developing, using the SDGs as a shared framework and a shared vision for defining that collaborative way forward.[2]<\/sup><\/a>\u00a0It seeks to promote\u00a0international trade<\/a>, and help\u00a0developing countries<\/a>\u00a0increase their exports to ensure a universal rules-based and equitable\u00a0trading system<\/a>\u00a0that is fair, open and beneficial to all.<\/p>

With US$5 trillion to $7 trillion in annual investment required to achieve the SDGs, total official\u00a0development assistance<\/a>\u00a0reached US$147.2 billion in 2017. This, although steady, is below the set target.\u00a0In 2016, six countries met the international target to keep official development assistance at or above 0.7 percent of\u00a0gross national income<\/a>.<\/p>

Humanitarian crises<\/a>\u00a0brought on by conflict or\u00a0natural disasters<\/a>\u00a0have continued to demand more financial resources and\u00a0aid<\/a>. Even so, many countries also require official development assistance to encourage growth and trade.\u00a0The global progress map for SDG 17 shows that significant and major challenges remain in the majority of the world. Many regions of strong economic status perform very poorly, like the\u00a0United States<\/a>\u00a0and much of\u00a0Europe<\/a>.<\/p>

These inclusive partnerships built upon principles and values, a shared vision, and shared goals that place people and the planet at the center, are needed at the global, regional, national and local level.<\/p>

Sustainable Goal 17 targets long-term investments to empower sectors and companies in need, more adaptable in developmental countries.
