On November 9 of this year, N. Nishanov and F. Ziyadat visited the Department of Soil Science of the Faculty of Biology of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek on the initiative of Professor Laziza Gafurova.
At the meeting, Tokhtasin Abdrakhmanov, dean of the Faculty of Biology, Nariman Nishanov, Chief Technical Advisor of the project “Sustainable management of forests and pastures in the dry land ecosystems of Uzbekistan”, FAO; Feras Ziadat, responsible officer for Soil and Water Resources of FAO, Italy, gave a lecture on Soil Degradation on the topic “Sustainable management of degraded lands and their rational use”.
It was attended by professors and teachers of the Department of Agrochemistry and Agro-soil Science of NUU, as well as 4th-year undergraduate students. Students received answers to their questions.
The visit served as a platform for fruitful discussions and knowledge exchange between representatives from FAO and faculty members at NUUz. The delegation from FAO expressed their appreciation for the university’s commitment to agricultural innovation and sustainability.
Conversely, NUUz representatives highlighted the university’s ongoing research endeavors and initiatives aimed at addressing key challenges in the agricultural sector, particularly in the context of Uzbekistan’s unique agricultural landscape.
The discussions centered on identifying areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration, including joint research projects, capacity-building initiatives, and knowledge-sharing platforms. Both parties emphasized the importance of leveraging each other’s expertise and resources to achieve shared objectives in agricultural development.
The visit by the FAO delegation underscored the significance of partnerships between academic institutions and international organizations in advancing agricultural research, technology transfer, and sustainable practices. It also reaffirmed NUUz’s commitment to playing a pivotal role in driving agricultural innovation and contributing to food security efforts in Uzbekistan and beyond.
