WOMEN IN AI

The Role of Women in the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Uzbekistan

In the modern world, where science and technology are rapidly advancing, the participation of women in these fields is becoming increasingly important. Particularly in innovative areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), women’s involvement contributes not only to scientific progress but also to the promotion of gender equality in society. This aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal SDG 5: Gender Equality, which emphasizes empowering women and ensuring equal opportunities in education, research, and technological development.

At the Faculty of Applied Mathematics and Intellectual Technologies of the National University of Uzbekistan, a scientific-practical seminar titled “The Role of Women in the Development of Artificial Intelligence in Uzbekistan” was held on the occasion of February 11 — the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. The event was organized on the initiative of the Uzbekistan Women Scientists Association “Olima” with the aim of supporting women in science, strengthening their research potential, and encouraging young girls to pursue careers in scientific and technological fields.

The seminar was attended by the Chairperson of the Uzbekistan Women Scientists Association “Olima” and professor of the National University of Uzbekistan, Rahbar Murtazayeva, the Chairperson of the university’s “Olima” association Professor Mavluda Zohidova, the Rector’s advisor on women’s issues Ra’no Rustamova, as well as chairpersons of faculty “Olima” associations, doctoral students, master’s students, and professors.

During the seminar, participants discussed the ongoing research in the field of artificial intelligence and highlighted the achievements of women scientists in this rapidly developing area. Experts emphasized the importance of increasing women’s participation in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), noting that their active involvement plays a crucial role in fostering innovation, advancing scientific research, and supporting the country’s digital transformation.

The discussions also focused on supporting young female researchers, expanding opportunities for women to participate in scientific projects, and increasing their contribution to the development of artificial intelligence technologies in Uzbekistan.
