Sustainable Food Purchases

Supporting Local Sources for Health and Sustainability

The National University of Uzbekistan (NUUz) is committed to promoting sustainability and community well-being by prioritizing the purchase of food products from local, trusted, and environmentally responsible suppliers. This approach not only supports regional farmers and producers but also ensures that all students and staff have access to fresh, nutritious, and ethically sourced meals across campus.

Ensuring Food Quality and Security

To strengthen food safety and transparency, the Rector of NUUz has implemented a set of formal policies that regulate all food procurement on campus.
These policies are designed to:

  • Validate food sources before purchase, ensuring they meet strict standards of quality, freshness, and sustainability.

  • Reduce food insecurity by providing affordable and reliable access to healthy meals for students and staff.

  • Promote local supply chains to minimize environmental impact and support Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector.

Supplier Verification and Oversight

A designated food inspection and procurement team operates under the Rector’s supervision to verify and approve all food suppliers.
This team:

  • Reviews suppliers’ sustainability and hygiene practices.

  • Conducts on-site evaluations before contracts are signed.

  • Ensures all purchases align with the university’s environmental and health standards

Through this process, NUUz guarantees that the food served on campus is safe, locally sourced, and environmentally conscious, aligning with national goals for sustainable development and food security.
