Smart Walkway . Generating Light with Every Step
As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability, the National University of Uzbekistan has launched a new “Smart Walkway” project — an eco-friendly path that generates electricity through human movement.
The special tiles installed along the student walkway are designed to convert kinetic energy into electrical power. Each step taken by students and staff helps produce clean energy that powers the LED lights along the pathway. This creates a visually striking and environmentally responsible solution that combines technology, science, and sustainability in one space.
The project aims to:
Encourage energy awareness among students through real-life experience;
Reduce electricity consumption by using renewable, human-powered energy;
Promote smart campus development in line with the global trend toward sustainable innovation.
According to university representatives, the Smart Walkway not only adds a futuristic look to the campus but also serves as a living laboratory for students studying physics, engineering, and environmental science.
The initiative is part of the broader “Green Space” program, through which the National University of Uzbekistan continues to promote clean energy, low-emission technologies, and environmentally conscious campus culture.
Rector Inomjon Majidov emphasized that projects like this show how scientific creativity can directly improve everyday life while educating young people about the importance of sustainability and renewable energy.
