Museum of Paleontology

About

The Museum of paleontology, with more than 900 exhibits, describes periods of development from archaic to anthropogenic. It consists of two sections: 1st Systematics and 2nd historical – geological-natural history of Earth development, exhibitions of flora and fauna evolution in time and space.

The Zoological Museum under the Faculty of Biology of the National University of Uzbekistan was founded in 1911, and the museum has a long history of contributions to the study and understanding of Zoology and biodiversity.

Exhibits

In the petrography and lithology Department, 537 specimens of magmatic (intrusive and volcanogenic), metamorphic and sedimentary rocks are preserved, indicating strong magmatic activity, deposition in ancient marine and oceanic basins, uplift and subsidence of land blocks during tectonic processes.

Cotton Collection

ABOUT

A world-famous genetic collection was collected in the laboratory of Acorn genetics at the Department of genetics of the National University of Uzbekistan. The museum is open to all visitors. Excursions to the museum are regularly held by schoolchildren, students of academic lyceums, as well as students of vocational colleges and higher educational institutions.

Exhibits

The purpose of the museum was to preserve the genetic stock of isogenic, introgressive, and mutant cotton strips; it was a unique scientific object, a “cultural heritage”, its content, updating, learning, and use beyond the scientific processes of material collection. The collected materials are used in the performance of fundamental practical applications and graduate qualification work of students; master’s theses and doctoral studies.
