Prospects and possibilities of inclusive education in higher educational institutions

On March 25 of this year, a roundtable discussion on “Prospects and possibilities of inclusive education in higher educational institutions” was held at the initiative of the Department of Social Work at the National University of Uzbekistan.

This roundtable discussion held within the framework of the “Socio-Economic Inclusion” project was organized in order to popularize and promote the ideas of inclusive education in higher education institutions of the country among interested organizations and citizens.

There was an exchange of views on the issue of creating equal opportunities in education for young people in need of social protection and in crisis situations, including students with disabilities.

At the round table, project coordinator Farhod Sherzatov from the national movement “Yuksalish”, chairman of the Association of Disabled People of Uzbekistan, member of the expert council of the Science, Education and Health Committee of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Oybek Isokov, associate professor of the Department of “Social Work” Abdulla Abdukhalilov, social worker of the project Susanna Turakulova gave a speech.

At this event, special attention was paid to the structure of the project work through the prism of inclusion of young people with disabilities, issues of understanding disability within the framework of the Convention on the Rights of the Disabled, and the concept of a scientific and practical center for the development of disabilities.

Based on the results of a survey conducted by experts among students with disabilities admitted to universities under an additional quota, it was suggested to establish an inclusive club for students and young people, and the project supported this initiative.

At the end of the roundtable discussion, the participants agreed on the importance of strengthening cooperation relations in this direction and carrying out joint work towards an inclusive strong civil society.
